Drink

I’m coming to the end of these daily blogs. I won’t quite hit 30, but that is ok, sometimes a target is close enough to feel like success.

And I’ve just been thinking.

I was sat in a pub today, nothing special, just watching the England game. Even though it was late and the day before a school day, the place was filled with children and their parents.

I didn’t really know if this blog should be posted. I think, maybe, it makes me come across as superior. I am not superior. Trust me when I say, I truly think that children are better off away from me. I’ve never hurt a child, I never would, but that is just an honest point in my head.

But I looked around that pub and saw parents who had so many empty pint glasses on the table. I saw children trying to make their own entertainment. I saw adults shouting at children who interrupted their view of the game.

I couldn’t watch this, I wanted to watch the game, but I had to leave. I hated seeing that, seeing alcohol fueled anger, and children being the ones who suffered.

I hardly drink alcohol – hardly has pretty much become never at this point. And all my life I have refused to drink alcohol in front of children. That doesn’t mean I have not – for example one Christmas my family (at the time, not blood related), bought me some Brewdogs, so I drunk one out of respect for their efforts at the dining table. At the same time, 3-years ago I went on my first real holiday abroad and had a free drinks package that included alcohol. I stayed on soft drinks all holiday.

Many moons ago, there was a boy in a pub garden. His parents were drinking and he went on the monkey bars. Then his parents started leaving – they had all been there for 5, maybe 6 hours. That boy panicked, fell and broke his left arm. The pain was exruriating and that boy was in tears for hours.

I would never ever want my intoxicated mind to make any child suffer because I wasn’t thinking clearly enough. Other than that, I have seen so much as to what alcohol does, and so I will never ever drink in front of children.

I just cannot, will not, and will never do it. And I am still thinking of those poor children during the England game. I would have loved to have just gone and played with them – but that part of me – the part that loves children, he’s gone.

As I sit here on this blog I am now pulling all the blogs (scheduled) to go live on one day so I can then remove myself. It’s a goodbye, but that is ok, I have had goodbyes  wanted to say that never game. This goodbye is just for this site.
