If you see me staring into space,
I’m not upset or sad, angry or mad –
I’m just sorting through the hundreds of thoughts in my mind.
Not intrusive, not harmful, not dark or unkind –
just ideas that keep me busy, not broken.
A business, a plan, a profile, a spark.
If I’m still and silent, it’s because the thoughts are raw and sharp.
And if I’m playing music, or keeping noise on at work,
it’s only so my ideas don’t drive me berserk.
Shows aren’t on for pleasure or joy –
just a trick I learned when I was a boy.
Noise doesn’t distract me or throw me off track –
it simply fills the space I can’t control or take back.
So excuse the quirks, the stillness, the oddity –
they’re not flaws or faults.
They’re part of my rhythm.
They’re me.
