I remember it.
In a ‘boyband’ with my friends.
I took it seriously. Wrote three songs that were about life in our street.
“Didn’t take me long to find the cut,
Down at the library stuck in a rut,
No books tell me how to speak,
Go shy when you kiss my cheek”
Of course my friends laughed.
Looking back it reads exactly like an 11-year old boy who doesn’t know how to turn his inner words into something that tells a story.
My friends wrote songs too.
You know what we are like as kids. We don’t hold back, and I was not impressed.
“Ziggy Marley, Ziggy Marley Yo, I am feeling sporty if you know what I mean?”
But I sang it. I arranged the dance moves. And my friend was happy.
But I sat there.
I read the lyrics to every Take That song.
I tried to understand them.
To me, this was my life.
